Artist Mark Rautenbach [aka Mark Splendid and Mark Maria] born in Pietermaritzburg and obtained a Fine Art degree from University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, major in sculpture. Mark works with material which is usually considered waste matter, thread and paper. His work focuses on the development of yarn, knitting, and public performances and craft-like studio work. Mark lectured in Design for a number of years at CPUT, and education recurs as a theme in his work along with identities born out of narratives [yarns].
